Urology

Today we visited the Dr. Kaye's office, he is the Urologist that was recommended to us by our pediatrician. After examining him he believed 99 % that we had a BOY on our hands but that he wanted to do some blood work to check his chromosomes to verify. I know that is probably taking you all by surprise as it did us too but I have a lot of confidence that he is a boy because he really did not seem concerned. After telling me that, he began immediately talking about the surgery that he would under go 2 weeks later. Dr. Kaye would make 2 incisions on his lower abdomen and 2 incisions on his testicles. He would then cut away unnecessary structures until he was able to pull the testicles down. We did not know there were unnecessary structures but there are. He could also have to cut 1 or 2 of the 3 blood vessels that supply blood to the testicles. There is a possibility of him loosing a testicle but he really did not believe that would happen. He also said he may have to have surgery twice if the first one he lowers dies not come down easily. He said he would rather him have 1 testicle that is not cosmetically correct then to have no testicles. He told me all the "worst case scenarios" just so we could be prepared. We are not getting a second opinion because I can clearly see that his testicles are not descended and the only way to lower them is to do surgery. He also is doing the surgery at Cook Children's and my children will only ever have any major procedure done at a children's hospital. He is scheduled for surgery Friday, September 10 as long as the blood work comes back with the results that we are sure they will. Please keep all Brooks in your thoughts and prayers. He needs them right now!! I will keep you all updated as we get closer to the surgery...
