SURGERY

Brooks had his surgery today and everything went well. The doctor was very pleased with how well the testicles were able to descend and he only had to cut one "non-important" structure. We had to be at the hospital by 6 am and Brooks was not allowed anything to eat or drink after midnight. I knew the night time part would not be difficult I just thought the drive to the hospital may be a little more difficult but he never asked for any milk. We told him the night before that he was going to the hospital for Dr. Kaye to fix his boys (that is what we call his boy area). He really did not ask many more questions other than that. We went back to the pre-op waiting area and this is where he became upset and not willing to cooperate. This was the hardest part of the whole ordeal. After the nurses did their assessment they gave him Versed (giggle juice) and everything turned around from there. The pictures below show his happy side after the "giggle juice". The nurses took him from us from there and he cried for a minute and then we could no longer hear him crying. The nurse called once they got started and half way through and then when they were finished. It took close to 2 hours from start to finish. A good friend of mine, Katy, works at Cook and she was able to go back to the OR to check on him which made the waiting time a little easier. She said he was doing fine and that he had a good OR nurse. Once they were finished we were able to go back to the recovery room and hold him until we were discharged. They only kept us for about an hour and then we were on our way home. He received a caudal block which is similar to a spinal block when you have a c-section. He was not completely numb from the waist down but had less feeling in his lower extremities. I was concerned about this but he did really well and we were able to watch him closely when we got home. By that evening he was more himself and in a little pain. We go back for a check up in 2 weeks but don't seem to think that there will be any complications. We are so glad to be done with this and look forward to a healed little boy!!

He belly laughed out loud continuously every time he would blow the bubbles. The nurses thought it was so funny that they let us bring the bubbles home!
